Quora to the Rescue - Nemesis πŸ‘€

I need(ed) to find Agatha Christie's Nemesis online, so that I could read it for free without having to buy it because I'm cheap and because if I haven't read a book before, I might hate it and don't want to buy it if it might turn out badly (there have been a few that I've disliked - though none I've hated so far). Unfortunately it is almost impossible to find Nemesis for free online.

Until I went to Quora... I love lists and hope has returned. I'll be checking them out but I think the first link is the most promising (update: it was a broken link). Hopefully I'll have a link up soon to where you can read Nemesis online for free. ;)

UPDATE: I got two links, one to BookFi which I've already heard of and tried (and it worked so yay I've found a link to Nemesis) and another one that I will be trying out soon: http://page2.dfpan.com/ls/bunnywong/14c4b1ff/ (it apparently as all 88 of her works, but who knows if that's accurate or if any of them work. If they do, I'll have a new post about it up soon).

YunFile/dfpan: Legit? 🀷

I doubt this site is legit AT ALL. It looks screwy and there are way too many buttons to push. But it advertises 88 of Agatha Christie's books so I hope it's aboveboard since that would be exciting, to have access to every single one of her books.

Currently I'm waiting for Nemesis to download, we'll see how that goes... apparently it takes more than 10 minutes to download for "Limited" users. Whatever. (Update, I ended up quitting. Too many buttons, didn't know which to push.)

YunFile/dfpan is not legit.

huge list πŸ“œ free online reading sites

from here: https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-best-site-for-reading-novel-online

I got to here: http://www.feedbooks.com/
here: http://libgen.io/
here: https://openlibrary.org/
here: http://manybooks.net/
here: http://www.publicbookshelf.com/index.html
here: http://webfictionguide.com/ (I don't think this one is legit)
here: http://novellatime.com/ (but it's under construction)
here: http://en.booksee.org/
and here: https://www.ebookhunter.net/ (but it looks iffy)

and whatever this is: http://sacred-texts.com/about.htm

Trishna Nair is a whole post in and of herself. This is what she had to offer:
http://www.bestlib4u.net/
http://www.freebest-books.com/
^ those are super iffy
http://2novels.net/
http://fullbooks.net/
http://eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/indexframe.html
http://free-ebook-online.com/
http://free-online-novels.com/
https://www.freebooksy.com/

^ these only a little bit less so
(she also suggested 7novels oh yeah btdt)

https://www.bookrix.com/
http://www.classicreader.com/
https://www.fictionpress.com/
https://www.free-ebooks.net/
https://www.smashwords.com/

these are ones that I use all the time:
https://6booksy.com/ (to find books on here you have to google "6booksy _" with the title, you can't search the website itself)
https://novelfreereadonline.com/ (one of my favorites, because getting around the site is intuitive and easy. Same with 6booksy, you have to google it with the title of the book, you can't search on the site even though there's a search bar - it doesn't actually do anything)
https://novel12.com/ (exact same format)
https://allnovel.net/ (search bar does work, but googling it probably gets you faster results and less viruses!)
https://bluenovels.net/ (works, but it's an ugly format and I hate reading when the format is big and bulky looking)
https://www.bookfreevampire.com/ (can't search within the website, have to use google. Format is nice, though, not too many ads)
https://www.novelcool.com/ (has ads and starts at the end of the book and is a bit confusing in the way you get to page one, but the search is helpful, and design is nice)
https://novel80.com/ (pretty good format, search tool is functional and gets you where you want, no ads)
http://readsnovelonline.com/ (format is ugly but it gets you where you need to be. search tool works)
https://allnovel.net/ (same thing, ugly format, but search tool works and you can read stuff for free)
http://onlinelibr.blogspot.com/search/label/Story (this is only for Agatha Christies and Sherlock Holmes, but it's a fine layout and format, even though a bit non-intuitive)

other, random ones I've stumbled across:
https://www.free-ebooks.net/ (I kept searching for books, and it had none of them which makes me wonder how legit the site is and if all they have are trashy dime store novels. Also you have to make an account I'm pretty sure.)
http://libgen.rs/ (go to the book's link, click on the title of the book which is listed at the very very top of the page, before all the other info, and then click on "GET" at the very top of the page it takes you to. It will automatically start downloading a PDF that you can, hopefully, read. I have a chromebook and it wasn't supported on here, but it might be supported on your computer. Or that might mean it's a virus so I'd steer clear just to play it safe.)

How the emojis in the titles work.

Can't find it free online? Try this. 😲

Here's what I did with mine: find at least one paragraph from that book, somehow. It doesn't matter how. Maybe go to the library and copy onto your phone/computer or something. Somehow get your hands on a paragraph.

Then plug it into Google.

It should find you a website that has the book for free. Why? Because most sites that offer snippets of the book won't have a full paragraph - or if they do, it's a full paragraph altogether, not a full one from one place in the book (if that makes sense). That way you can weed out the fake websites and get down to the good stuff (that's how I found A Carribean Mystery).

Hope it works bc if it doesn't I don't want people complaining bc I'm kind of out of ideas. If I figure out an even better way, I'll tell you but there are dozens of ways I've already posted about earlier on here so if this one isn't satisfactory, browse my older posts via the tags. idk, maybe just give up on life.

PS. Update 10/16/18 - I was looking for Nemesis by Agatha Christie and no one had it except Archive.org which only had pictures of each page. It was fine, but I wanted to be able to highlight and copy. I thought about this, and was like "but it would take forever to copy word for word a whole paragraph..." which brings me to my point: you don't have to do a whole freakin paragraph for goodness sake I don't know what I was thinking. Just look for a sentence that is kind of in the middle of a chapter (hopefully you have access to the second or third because lots of people have the first couple for a sample so it wouldn't really help finding the whole book) and then copy it. Sentences work just as well as paragraphs so just ignore my earlier thing though a whole paragraph never hurt so if a sentence doesn't work, use a paragraph and just add onto your sentence. Try finding a sentence that people wouldn't use on a Wikipedia page or as one of their favorite quotes, things like that - because then you know you're going to get legit, for-real stuff.

Hoooope that helps.

{ read book online } πŸ“š

(the blog itself is called { Read book online } which is why the post title looks weird.) It says that this is showing all posts with label "story" but that's where it takes you when you click on the blog title. The same thing happens when you click on the button "Home". So idk why they have to tag it but ok. It's got lots and lots of Agatha Christies. You click on the book you want to read, and it gives you a breakdown of each chapter - click on the one you want to read and you're all set! Once you reach the end of the chapter, click on the book tag (e.g., "A Carribean Mystery") which will take you back to the list of chapters for that book. Click on the title of the blog and it will take you back to all the book options.

This is the only site where I've found A Carribean Mystery, extremely grateful (yay) and also happy that it's a blog bc that means 1) no scuzzy ads and 2) probably nobody's running after them with a copyright infringement thingamajigger. But it also means they're probably breaking the copyright thing. At least it's a blog - nobody cares about blogs, do they?

...do they?

The Thief πŸ“•

I've been meaning to get Meghan Whalen Turner's amazing book uploaded but I haven't had the chance, so here's the link and go do yourself a favor.

Enjoy!

(sorry it looks so odd...trust me, it's Google Docs so everything's aboveboard. It's the link I use time and again to reread one of my favorite books of all time - right up there with Mara, Daughter of the Nile and When You Reach Me. It works for Queen of Attolia and King of Attolia as well - haven't tried it with the rest of the series, though. Just type in "docs.google.com queen of attolia" and it's the first link.)

A Carribean Mystery πŸ“–

This is a little bit of a pain to navigate, but it's the only place I can find that offers a free read of Agatha Christie's A Carribean Mystery.

You have to click on the chapter you're reading/on, and then once you've reached the end of the chapter, you just click on the tag "A Carribean Mystery" which will take you back to the "list" of chapters. Unfortunately it starts you back at the top so it gets to be a bigger and bigger pain the farther you get in the book.

On the bright side, it's not very long!

As I was reading, I clicked "Older Posts" and on ch 21 it took me back to the list, but this time the list started with chapter 21 and went to the last chapter. When I clicked "Older Posts" on ch 22, it took me to ch 23, so I think you have to click the tag once you've reached the end of chapter one, but the rest of the time you can click "Older Posts". Or maybe you can click "Older Posts" on chapter one, too, idk, the setup of the blog isn't intuitive.
